Lies in the middle of picturesque sunny meadows. Forty years ago those meadows were inaccessible swamps, and even earlier a beautiful lake was located there, with an island (ostrow) in the middle - therefore the name of the place is Ostrowo. Tourists discovered the village relatively late, perhaps because it is located more than half a mile from the beach. Yet the beach itself is clean, wide and almost empty, unlike other beaches of more popular holiday resorts.
The distance from the sea should not discourage you from relaxing in this charming little village, especially that the nearby pine woods with grass and heather bed are excellent for hiking and cycling. Until recently, the tourists could visit a historic 19th century hetch, or a thatched cabin, but as it is now severely destroyed and no funds are available for the renovation, it will be probably soon demolished.
From the South, Ostrowo is surrounded by Bielawskie Błota, or Bielawe in the Kashubian language. These are extensive waterlogged peat-bogs with unique flora, part of which form a Nature Reserve. The bogs are one of those rare places where cranes build their hatching nests. Tourists should walk the special route, in particular at dawn, to watch numerous species of birds and wild game from a small watchtower.
